Copilot is an AI-powered chatbot that allows you to ask questions and get an answer specific to your project’s parameters, year, and jurisdiction. Answers provided by Copilot include code references used to generate the response to help you navigate the code.

  • Copilot remembers previous messages within the same conversation.
  • Keep an eye out for additional information that Copilot might be missing to give you an answer tailored to your specific project.
  • Including optional filters such as “building Type” helps improve the accuracy of the answer by allowing Copilot to tailor the answer to your project.

Selecting a jurisdiction

Copilot searches for answers based on the codes available for a specific jurisdiction. To explore a different jurisdiction's collection, simply follow the steps below:

  1. Locate the "Jurisdiction" dropdown menu at the top-right corner of the chat interface.

  2. Click on the dropdown to reveal a list of available jurisdictions.

  3. Select your desired jurisdiction from the list.

Selecting a code year collection

By default, Copilot searches for answers within the current code year collection for the selected jurisdiction. If you'd like to explore a different year's collection, simply follow the steps below:

  1. Locate the "Code Year" dropdown menu at the top-right corner of the chat interface.

  2. Click on the dropdown to reveal a list of available code years.

  3. Select your desired code year from the list.

Selecting a building type

Depending on your project’s building type, the codes that apply to your project will most likely change. These are the options available for building type:

  • Single and Two-Family Residential

  • Multi-Family Residential

  • Medical

  • Commercial

In order to set a specific building type, simply follow the steps below:

  1. Locate the “Building Type” options on the left side.

  2. Select the “Building Type” that corresponds to your project.

If you want to ask a question about a different building type, you can change the building type by clicking on the new option. If you are not sure about which “Building Type” applies to your project, you can remove this filter by clicking on “Clear” next to the title “Building Type”.
